Current Context: The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, launched a 100-day, Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Scheme.

  • The scheme will provide 100-days of guaranteed employment to families living in "urban" areas.
  • The Rajasthan Government has allocated a sum of Rs. 800 Cr. for the scheme.
  • According to the government, more than 2.25 lakh families have already registered themselves under the scheme.
  • The beneficiary must be between the ages of 18 to 60 years to avail benefits of the scheme.
  • It is compulsory for each ward of the Urban Local Body (ULB), to provide employment to at least 50 people.
  • e-Mitra centers will provide the Janadhar/Registration slip, which will be mandatory for enrolment.
  • The scheme is modeled after the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), which was launched in 2005 to provide rural employment.
