Vitamin Angels India partners with UNICEF

Current Context: Vitamin Angels India announced a partnership with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) India for Poshan Maah 2022.

  • The collaboration aims to address undernutrition in India and spread nutrition-related awareness in the country.
  • Through the partnership, the objective is to implement a unified outreach program to enhance nutritional content, delivery, and outcomes with a prime focus on fostering immunity, health, and wellness to various diseases.
  • During the ongoing Poshan Maah 2022 (01 Sep- 30 Sep), Vitamin Angels India has hosted 160 nutrition-related awareness activities across India that reached over 100,000 people. These include:
  1. awareness campaigns
  2. screening films and videos on nutritional needs and awareness
  3. organizing Poshan Rallies
  4. capacity-building sessions for pregnant women and ASHA workers on prenatal care and malnutrition
  5. administering Vitamin A and Albendazole supplements to children
  6. community theatre and plays
  7. mass nutrition oath
  8. workshops on a balanced diet
  • The collaboration between Vitamin Angels and UNICEF further extends to the launch of the Poshan Innovation Platform initiative in January 2023.
  • The Poshan Innovation Platform aims to invite various civil society networks, educational institutions, and businesses from across India for sharing innovative ideas on nutrition interventions for maternal, infant, and young children.
  • UNICEF is a UN agency responsible for extending humanitarian and developmental aid to children across the world. It was established in 1946 with its headquarters in New York. The current Executive Director of UNICEF is Catherine Russell and the current President is Tore Hattrem.
  • Vitamin Angels is an international organization that was formed in 1994 with the objective to eliminate malnutrition by providing essential life-saving vitamins to mothers and children across the world. Its headquarters is in Santa Barbara, California and the current President of the organization is Howard B. Schiffer.
