Amul to merge with Five Cooperative Societies

Current Context: Home Minister Amit Shah announces the merger of Amul with five other cooperative societies.

• Amul will be merged to form a multi-state cooperative society (MSCS).
• It was announced in the 70th Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council.
• It will improve in catering to the rising demand for milk and its products.
• It will result in an increased income for the farmers.
• The MCSC will work for the certification of natural products so that the profit will directly go to the farmers.
• The government has kept a target to double the milk production in the country in the next five years.
• Static part- Cooperative Societies are a state subject but the MCSC is regulated by the center under the Multi-State Co-operative Societies Act, of 2002.
