  • National News:
    • The Idol Wing-CID successfully traced two Chola-era bronze idols that were stolen about 50 years ago from the Vishwanatha Swamy Temple in the Tiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu and smuggled them to the USA.
    • The Minister of State for External Affairs, V. Muraleedharan, participated in the 8th edition of the “Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa” held in Senegal.
    • The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, launched a one-time property tax amnesty scheme, “Strengthening and Augmentation of Municipal Revenue for Infrastructure Development in Delhi (SAMRIDDHI) 2022-23”.
    • Stock exchange BSE launched Electronic Gold Receipt (EGR) on its platform with the objective to assist in efficient and transparent price discovery of gold.
  • International News:
    • The regulatory authority of Australia approved the commercial cultivation of the genetically modified herbicide-tolerant Indian mustard species called “Brassica juncea”.
    • German Chancellor Olaf Scholz accused Russia of using the “Scorched Earth Tactics” against Ukraine in the ongoing war. Scorched Earth Tactics are a type of military strategy in which anything that can be useful to the enemy is destroyed including energy supplies, agricultural fields, bridges, roads, railway links, etc.

    • The partial Solar Eclipse (Surya Grahan) was visible in parts of Southern and Central Asia, Northern Africa, Europe, etc. It was the last solar eclipse of the year. A solar eclipse happens when a planet or a moon gets in the way of the Sun and Earth.
    • The University of Western Australia and Linnaeus University in Sweden together started a community-led project with the Samburu to learn about their rock art tradition. Samburu people hail from Northern Kenya and are primarily pastoralists.
  • Books and Authors:
    • Akshay Shah and Stephen Alter compiled a new book, “The Corbett Papers: Biographical, Legal, & Contextual Material on the Life & Career of Jim Corbett of Kumaon”. The book is about Jim Corbett and is published by Black Kite Publishing.
  • Appointments:
    • Rishi Sunak of the Conservative Party was officially declared as the Prime Minister of the UK as he became the leader of his party after the resignation of Liz Truss. Sunak, 42, will be the youngest PM of the UK.
    • AK Goel was appointed as the Chairperson of the Indian Banks’ Association. Goel is the current CEO and MD of the Punjab National Bank (PNB).
    • Elizabeth Jones was appointed to serve as ChargĂ© d’Affaires at US Embassy in New Delhi by the US Government.
  • Obituary:
    • National Award-winning Bengali Director Pinaki Chaudhary passed away at the age of 82.
  • Sports:
    • Former Indian cricketer, Yuvraj Singh was named as the brand ambassador for the 3rd T20 World Cup for the Blind by the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI).
    • Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won the Formula 1 Aramco United States Grand Prix 2022 held at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, US.
