Current Context: Tata Steel Nederland signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ford in Europe to supply it with Zeremis green steel.

  • Tata Steel has planned to produce green steels (steels produced without the use of fossil fuels) by 2030 at its plant in Ijmuiden Steelworks in the Netherlands.
  • The signing of the agreement by Ford is a step towards its target of reaching carbon neutrality by 2035.
  • As per the MoU, Tata Steel Nederland will in the future supply environmentally-friendly low-CO2 steel to the car-making company Ford.
  • Speaking on the agreement, the Chairperson of the Board of Management of Tata Steel Nederland, Hans van den Berg, said that the company was transitioning to become a producer of high-quality green steel in large quantities.
  • Tata Steel Nederland is a subsidiary of Tata Steels that was established in 1918 with its headquarters in Velsen-Noord, the Netherlands. It is responsible for manufacturing, processing, and distributing steel products throughout the Netherlands.
