Current Context: In order to export missiles, rockets, and ammunition, India inked a defense export deal with Armenia.

  • The overall monetary value of this contract is estimated to be Rs. 2000 crores.
  • Under the new agreement, military equipment viz. rockets, missiles, and ammunitions will be exported by India to Armenia.
  • The export order consists of six additional first-ever export of anti-tank rockets, Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launchers, and ammunitions.
  • This deal will help the Armenian Army, which is engaged in a prolonged border conflict (Nagorno-Karabakh Region) with Azerbaijan.
  • The Pinaka is a multi-barrel rocket launcher that is indigenously developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and is currently used by the Indian Army.
