Current Context: The ISRO Propulsion Research Complex (IPRC) successfully conducted tests for Gaganyaan at Mahendragiri in Tamil Nadu.
IPRC Successfully Tests Engine for Gaganyaan
  • The IPRC conducted the Pressure Chamber Test of cryogenic engine C20 E11 MK III.
  • The test was conducted for a duration of 25 seconds to evaluate the effectiveness of the engine for its use in Mission Gaganyaan.
  • The engine has also been earmarked for the LVM3-M3 mission for the launch of the next set of 36 OneWeb India-1 satellites.
  • Powered by a CE-20 engine working with the LOX-LH2 propellants combination, the cryogenic upper stage of the LVM3 vehicle (C25 stage) develops a nominal thrust of 186.36 kN in a vacuum.
  • Mission Gaganyaan is India’s first human spaceflight program that will undertake the demonstration of human spaceflight to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) with a crew of 3 astronauts. According to ISRO’s chief S Somnath, the mission will be launched by the end of 2024 or early in 2025.
