AMRITPEX 2023 inaugurated in New Delhi

Current context: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw from the Ministry of Communications launched a 5-day national philatelic exhibition called AMRITPEX 2023 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, in celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

  • The exhibition, which will conclude on February 15, 2023, showcases 20,000 exhibits in 13 categories and features workshops, panel discussions, and cultural programs.
  • It aims to display 5000 years of India's history, culture, art, and heritage through stamps and pictorial collections.
  • The event attracted numerous school students and philatelists from across the country.
  • In addition, the Department of Posts opened over 10 lacks Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts as part of the celebrations.
  • The exhibition also features various technological artifacts like Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality, which is a first in India.
  • The Department of Posts released a Commemorative Postage Stamp on Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, which was designed from the best entries in a nationwide design competition participated in by more than four lakh students.
  • Participants included the Minister of State (MoS) Devusinh Chauhan, Secretary, Department of Posts, Vineet Pandey, and Director General Postal Services, Alok Sharma.
  • Philately refers to the collection and study of postage and imprinted stamps. India's first stamp was issued on November 21, 1947, depicting the Indian Flag, three stamps in a series, following its Independence on August 14, 1947.
