General Atomics starts project in India on AI, drones and semiconductors

Current context: The US-based company General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) has started three important projects in India in the areas of AI, drones, and semiconductors following the launch of a joint US-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET).

  • The first meeting of iCET was hosted by the US-India Business Council and attended by senior US and Indian officials, including US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
  • GA-ASI has formed partnerships with Bharat Forge Limited, an Indian forging company, for aerostructure manufacturing, 114ai, an Indian AI company, for next-gen AI technologies, and 3rdiTech, an Indian start-up and winner of the Innovations For Defence Excellence program of the Ministry of Defence, for semiconductors.
  • Additionally, the US Semiconductor Industry Association and the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association have formed a private-sector task force to strengthen collaboration in the global semiconductor ecosystem.
  • The task force, comprised of stakeholders from both countries, aims to develop a readiness assessment to explore near-term industrial prospects and support the long-term development of complementary semiconductor ecosystems.
  • The task force will also identify opportunities for workforce development, R&D, advanced packaging, and exchange and recommend to the Department of Commerce and the India Semiconductor Mission to enhance India's position in the global semiconductor value chain
