Current context: India’s aviation security monitoring ranking has improved to the 55th position from 112th place, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

  • This ranking was achieved under the Universal Safety Oversight Audit Program (USOAP) of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
  • The USOAP monitors the safety obligations of ICAO's 187 member states based on eight critical elements of a safety oversight system.
  • During the Coordinated Validation Mission (ICVM) in November 2022, the ICAO team reviewed India's progress in addressing 137 protocol questions, resulting in an updated overall Effective Implementation (EI) of 85.65%.
  • It is important to note that this ranking is dynamic and can change based on the outcomes of various audits undertaken by ICAO.
