Current Context: Airports Council International (ACI) has released the list of top 10 busiest airports in the world for 2022.
- The top 10 airports account for 10% of global traffic and see a growth of 51.7% from 2021.
- ACI also pointed out that global passenger traffic is projected to reach nearly 7 billion in 2022, representing an increase of 53.5% from 2021 or a recovery of 73.8% from 2019. 5 of the top 10 airports globally are in the United States.
- Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has been ranked as the ninth busiest airport in the world in 2022, which handles about 59.5 million passengers every year.
- Passenger traffic also showed an increase of 60.2% as compared to the previous year.
