Current Context: Apple is getting ready to open its first physical store in the country. Apple's two top contract manufacturers, Foxconn and Wistron, were the fastest growing manufacturers in India during the last quarter of 2022.

  • According to a Bloomberg report, the Taiwanese company plans to invest around $700 million on a new plant in the state capital Bengaluru to make iPhone parts.
  • The company has announced that its first-ever retail store in India will open on April 18 at the Jio World Drive mall in Mumbai, the financial and commercial hub of India.
  • A second one, at the Select Citywalk mall in Saket, Delhi, will be launched on April 20.
  • Its earlier plan to open a store in the country in the year 2021 was derailed by the corona virus pandemic. The company will open its store at JIO World Drive Mall, a property owned by Reliance Industries.
