  • National:
    • India has sent a third ship, INS Tarkash, to Port Sudan for evacuating citizens as part of Operation Kaveri. The operation aims to evacuate over 3,000 citizens who are trapped in Sudan amid the ongoing unrest.

    • The Voter Helpline app is a mobile application developed by the Election Commission of India to provide various services and information to the voters. It allows users to search their names in the electoral roll, fill up online forms, know about elections, and lodge grievances
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 91 FM transmitters to boost radio connectivity in the country.
    • Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar inaugurated the Summit on Farm Machinery Technology organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Tractor and Mechanization Association (TMA)
    • The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has decided to postpone the next phase of the Electronic Cash Ledger (ECL) facility for Customs duty payments by two months to June 30.
    • The report highlights the good and innovative practices adopted by state governments and organizations in various aspects of millet value-chain, especially production, processing, and consumption.
    • On 26th April 2023, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Ministry of Finance (MoF), approved the upgradation of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) to a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) from a Category-I MiniRatna CPSE
    • on April 26, 2023, Union Minister Amit Shah launched “IFFCO Nano DAP (liquid)”, the world’s first liquid Nano DAP (Diammonium phosphate), developed by Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) at New Delhi
    • The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Art of Living on April 26, 2023 as part of its Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA). The MoU aims to take forward the NMBA campaign to fulfill the vision of a drug-free India.
    • The Priority Watch List is a list of countries that have serious intellectual property rights (IPR) deficiencies that require increased USTR attention. The Special 301 Report is an annual report by the USTR that identifies trade barriers to American companies due to IP laws of other countries.
  • International:
    • According to a joint statement by Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, and PAN Sorasak, Cambodia’s Minister of Commerce, the CEPA was finalised on 27th April, 2023
    • US Navy, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has seized a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman. The US Navy has stated that Iran’s actions are contrary to international law and disruptive to regional security and the oil tanker should release immediately
    • The Department of Consumer Affairs and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action signed the new Work Plan for 2023 during the 9th Annual Meeting of the Indo-German Working Group on Quality Infrastructure. The plan was signed in Berlin, Germany on 25 April 2023
  • Sports:
    • P V Sindhu, H S Prannoy, and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will compete in the quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Championships.
    • Indian athletes Aarti and Khusbhu Yadav finished third and fourth in the Girls' 5000 m Race Walk at the Asian U18 Athletics Championships in Uzbekistan.
  • Banking:
    • WYLD, the world’s first social currency payment card has launched in Mumbai. Powered by Visa, the platform will allow everyday social media users (with as little as 1K followers) to leverage their Instagram following to earn massive cashbacks on everyday spends
  • Awards:
    • The Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) Uttar Pradesh received the HUDCO Award for Best Practices to Improve the Living Environment 2022-23 category for Sanitation for its campaign ‘Swatchh Virasat’.
    • Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Bank was also felicitated for its outstanding contribution towards the housing sector of the country under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) – Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) through various innovative initiatives
    • The 14th Dalai Lama was presented with the 1959 Ramon Magsaysay Award at his residence in Dharamsala by members of the award foundation personally after 64 years on Wednesday.
    • RINL bagged Steel Ministry’s ‘Ispat Rajbhasha Samman’ First Prize for the year 2021-22. RINL CMD Atul Bhatt received this prestigious award from the Minister of State for Steel and Rural Development Faggan Singh Kulaste
    • Jaden Pariat of Argenti Motorsport displayed his immense talent with a podium in the first round of the ROKiT British F4 Championship at Donington Park. He is only the second Indian to get an international podium in a Tatuus F4 car after Kush Maini’s podium in 2017
  • Obituary:
    • Kaur Singh, an Asian Games gold medallist boxer and Padma Shri awardee, passed away on April 27th at a private hospital in Haryana’s Kurukshetra. He was 74 and had been suffering from multiple health issues
  • Important days:
    • International Girls in ICT Day is annually observed across the globe on the 4th Thursday in April to encourage and empower girls and young women to explore and pursue careers in the field of ICT. The theme for Girls in ICT Day 2023 was ‘Digital Skills for Life’
