Current Context: The Anji Khad bridge is a cable-stayed bridge connecting Katra and Reasi section of Jammu–Baramulla line in the Jammu Division of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge. It is built by Hindustan Construction Company.

  • The bridge has a total length of 473.25 m (1,552.7 ft) and a height of 196 m (643 ft) above the river bed.
  • It has a longest span of 290 m (950 ft) and consists of 96 cables in total. The bridge was designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and seismic activities.
  • The bridge was initially proposed to be an arch bridge similar to the Chenab Bridge, but it was rejected due to the geological instability of the region. 
  • The cable-stayed design was approved in October 2016 and the project cost was 458 crore. The bridge was completed in record time and inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 30 October 2022
