ISRO successfully Tests Reusable Launch Vehicle Autonomous Landing Mission (RLV LEX)

Current Context: ISRO successfully tested the Reusable Launch Vehicle Autonomous Landing Mission (RLV LEX). The test was conducted on April 2, 2023 at the Aeronautical Test Range (ATR), Chitradurga, Karnataka. Along with ISRO, IAF, CEMILAC, ADE and ADRDE contributed to this test.

  • The RLV was flown to an altitude of 4.5 km as an underslung load by a Chinook helicopter of the Indian Air Force.
  • The Reusable Launch Vehicle Autonomous Landing Mission (RLV LEX) test was the second of five tests and part of ISRO’s efforts to develop space planes/shuttles that can travel to low earth orbits, deliver payloads and return to earth for use again.
