Current Context: Sanjita Chanu, an Indian weightlifter who has won the Commonwealth Games twice, has been banned for four years by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) for doping twice.
- The 29-year-old had tested positive for a metabolite of Drostanolone – an anabolic steroid – which is included in the banned list of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
- Her dope sample was collected at the competition on September 30, 2022, during the National Games in Gujarat last year.
- Sanjita's ban will start from November 12, 2022, the date of her provisional suspension.
- The athlete has violated Article 2.1 and 2.2 of NADA ADR, 2021, therefore she is sanctioned with ineligibility for four (04) years as per Article 10.2.1 of NADA ADR, 2021. The Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel of NADA headed by Chaitanya Mahajan said in the order.
- “As per Article 10.10 of the NADA ADR, 2021, the athlete is hereby disqualified of all of the individual results obtained in the said Event with all Consequences, including forfeiture of all medals, points and prizes since 30-09-2022,”
