'Oil Jetty Development Project' Started in Kandla, Gujarat

Current Context: The Minister for Shipping, Ports and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal has approved the ‘Oil Jetty Development Project’ at Deendayal Port, Kandla (Gujarat) on 17 April 2023 on Build-Operate-Transfer basis under PPP mode.
'Oil Jetty Development Project' Started in Kandla, Gujarat
  • The construction of the oil jetty at Kandla is estimated to cost Rs 123.40 crore, and it will be funded under the PPP mode by One Sensenair.
  • The construction is expected to take 24 months, and the concession period for the project will be for 30 years.
  • Once completed, the project is expected to contribute to the overall economic development of the hinterland and increase the port's cargo handling capacity, thus reducing the turn-around time of vessels.
  • Deendayal Port, Kandla, handled 137.56 million tonnes of cargo in FY23, up 8% from the previous year.
  • The port is expected to double its cargo handling to 267 million tonnes by 2030, with an annual growth rate of 10%.
  • The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has identified 74 projects worth Rs 57,000 crore under the Sagar Mala program in Gujarat, demonstrating its commitment to the development of the port sector in India.
