RAMBAAN, Asia’s 1st Mobile Biosafety Level-3 Laboratory

Current Context: Asia’s first mobile biosafety level-3 (BSL-3) laboratory named Rapid Action Mobile BSL-3 Advanced Augmented Network (RAMBAAN), designed to investigate emerging viral infections was showcased at the G-20 Health Working Group meeting in Goa.

• The BSL-3 is the first of its kind in Asia and India and can access the remotest part of India.
• India has two operational mobile laboratories, one at RMRC, Gorakhpur, and another at NIV, Pune.
