  • National:
    • Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has launched a Learning Management Information System called SAKSHAM (Stimulating Advanced Knowledge for Sustainable Health Management) It is a digital learning platform developed by the National Institute of Health & Family Welfare (NIHFW), New Delhi.

    • Chief Minister’s Skill Upgradation and Global Employment Scheme. It is a scheme approved by the Uttarakhand government on Wednesday to help youths of the state pursue careers abroad.
    • Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Meenakashi Lekhi inaugurated the “Buddham Saranam Gacchami” Exhibition in the presence of senior Buddhist monks, Ambassadors, diplomats and Ministry officials on May 10, 2023 at the National Gallery of Modern Arts, New Delhi.
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat on May 12 and will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various projects in the city of Gandhinagar. The sanctioned value of these projects amounts to approximately Rs 4,400 crore
    • Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) successfully conducted a trial run of blood bag delivery using drones under its ‘i-DRONE’ initiative. The initiative was first used during the COVID-19 pandemic by the ICMR for distributing vaccines to hard-to-reach areas
    • India and Canada have agreed to explore enhanced cooperation through measures such as coordinated investment promotion, information exchange and mutual support in near future through a Memorandum of Understanding
  • Economy:
    • India’s economic success was hailed at the 56th Annual General Meeting of the Board of Governors of Asian Development Bank (ADB) in South Korea. The Indian delegation was led by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman
    • Japan, one of Sri Lanka’s main creditors and trading partners, has expressed its support for Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring negotiations and intends to play a constructive role with other creditor countries, including China and India
    • A global technology leader, announced on May 10, 2023 that it will start manufacturing in India, a major step in the expansion of its footprint in the country. This move is a part of Cisco’s strategy to create an even more diverse and resilient global supply chain
  • Sports:
    • Deepak Kumar, Mohammed Hussamuddin and Nishant Dev have made history by becoming three of the ten World Championships medallists from India. This is the first time that India has clinched three medals at a single edition of the tournament
    • India’s Rhythm Sangwan has won the bronze medal in the women’s 10-metre air pistol event at the ISSF World Cup 2023 for rifle and pistol shooters in Baku, Azerbaijan. She scored 219.1 in the final to finish third behind Anna 2016 Rio Olympic champion Anna Korakaki of Greece and 2004 Athens Olympics gold medallist Olena Kostevych of Ukraine
    • Olympian Archer and World Championship Silver Medallist Atanu Das and Rifle shooter Mehuli Ghosh were re-inducted in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) after their recent performances at the domestic circuit and the Archery World Cup in Antalya this year.
  • Banking:
    • Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Business Council of Canada (BCC) organized a CEOs Roundtable in Toronto to connect business leaders from both countries
    • Federal Bank has collaborated with National E-Governance Services Limited (NeSL) to launch an e-bank guarantee facility, enabling customers to replace the conventional paper-based process of obtaining bank guarantees
    • Rukart, the company that manufactures Subjee Cooler, has tied up with State Bank of India (SBI) to provide easy loans to customers who want to buy the product.     • Axis Bank, India’s third largest private sector bank, has enabled RuPay Credit Card support on UPI. This means that Axis Bank customers can link their RuPay Credit Cards to their UPI ID and use them as a mode of payment while scanning UPI QR Codes or at merchant’s UPI checkout page

    • Padma Desai was a renowned economist who passed away on April 29, 20231. She was known for her work on Indian and Soviet industrial policy, and was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2009. She was also the wife of Jagdish Bhagwati, another eminent economist
