Karnataka DGP IPS Officer Praveen Sood Appointed CBI Director

Current Context: Praveen Sood is a 1986 batch IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre and the current Director General of Police (DGP) of Karnataka.He was appointed as the CBI Director for a period of two years by a high-level committee comprising of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Leader of Opposition Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

• He has worked on various assignments such as traffic police, state reserve police, home department, police housing corporation and Mauritius police.
• He is an alumnus of IIT Delhi, IIM Bangalore and Syracuse University in New York.
• He has received several awards such as Chief Minister’s Gold Medal, Police Medal for Meritorious Service and President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
• He will replace the current CBI Director Subodh Kumar Jaiswal when his tenure ends on May.
• He had a tussle with Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar who had called him a "nalayak" and vowed action against him once his party is voted to power.
