India and Nepal sign pacts on energy, transport; India to import 10,000 MW of electricity from Nepal

Current Context: India and Nepal have signed a series of agreements on energy and transport, including the export of Nepal’s hydropower to Bangladesh through Indian territory.

• India has set a target of importing 10,000 MW of electricity from Nepal in the coming years under a long-term Power Trade Agreement.
• The two countries have also agreed to fast-track projects related to the Ramayana circuit and cooperate in setting up a fertilizer plant in Nepal.
