Current Context: India’s first carbon neutral village is being developed in Bhiwandi Taluka of Thane district in Maharashtra. The project is an initiative of Union Minister of State Kapil Patil and Union Rural Development Minister Giriraj Singh.

  • The aim is to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable practices for a cleaner and greener environment. As many as 121 tribal villages are being developed as model villages under this project.
  • These model villages will serve as examples for sustainable development, demonstrating effective infrastructure, facilities and improved living conditions.
  • In Bhiwandi Lok Sabha constituency, around 1.75 lakh farmers are getting benefited from Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Yojana, a scheme that provides financial assistance to the farmers, enhances their livelihood and promotes agricultural development
