Anurag Verma appointed as New Chief Secretary of Punjab

Current Context: Anurag Verma, a 1993 batch IAS officer, has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Punjab by the AAP government. He will assume charge on July 1, 2023 and will also hold additional charge as Principal Secretary Personnel as well as Vigilance.

• He is the 42nd chief secretary of Punjab and has previously served as deputy commissioner of Bathinda, Ludhiana and Jalandhar district .
• He has said that his top priority would be to provide a clean, efficient, responsive and transparent administration and that he will focus on health, education and development sector .
• He has also expressed hope of convincing the Centre to release the pending funds for the state’s development.
