- National:

- The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has appointed Braj Raj Sharma as the State Election Commissioner for Jammu and Kashmir. He is a retired IAS Officer and will hold the position of State Election Commissioner till he attains the age of sixty-five years.

- Mangala Narlikar, an eminent mathematician, passed away at the age of 80 after a long battle with cancer. She was the wife of noted astrophysicist Dr. Jayant Narlikar and carried out research in pure mathematics.
- Oommen Chandy, the former Chief Minister of Kerala and a senior Congress leader, passed away in Bengaluru following a prolonged illness. He was 79 years old at the time of his passing. His funeral preparations have commenced in Thirunakkara Maidanam, his home.
