  • National:
    • Power Finance Corporation Ltd (PFC) and REC Ltd have signed agreements with major clean energy companies for providing a total of Rs 5 lakh crore funds to their projects.The MoU between PFC and REC with clean energy companies was signed during the “Green Finance Summit” held in Goa on July 28, 2023.

    • ‘IoTechWorld Avigation, a leading agricultural drone manufacturer based in Gurugram, has announced that its indigenous AGRIBOT A6 krishi-drone has received the prestigious ‘Type Certificate’ from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)
    • Tata Technologies has signed a 10-year Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Government of Chhattisgarh to transform 36 government ITIs into modern technology centres leveraging its global partner network and manufacturing domain knowledge
    • The Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2023 was introduced in the Lok Sabha on July 28, 2023. The Bill proposes several amendments to the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017.
    • The National Nursing and Midwifery Commission Bill, 2023 and the National Dental Commission Bill, 2023 were both introduced in Lok Sabha on July 24, 2023. The National Nursing and Midwifery Commission Bill, 2023 repeals the Indian Nursing Council Act, 1947 and provides for the regulation and maintenance of standards of education and services for nursing and midwifery professionals
    • In an effort to enhance the skilling of students, around 12,582 faculties from government engineering colleges and 7,835 faculties from arts and science colleges from across Tamil Nadu have been trained in the last one year under the Naan Mudhalvan programme, an initiative of Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC).
  • Appointments:
    • Jim Skea of the United Kingdom has been elected as the new Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). With nearly forty years of climate science experience and expertise, Jim Skea will lead the IPCC through its seventh assessment cycle.
    • India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, has assumed the chairmanship of the 62nd Session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD). This is the first time in nearly 50 years that India has held this position within the UN agency.
  • Economy:
    • The Indian government has recently allowed Indian companies to list their shares directly on foreign exchanges through the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) in Gujarat International Financial Tech (GIFT) City.
    • AMD, the US chipmaker, has announced that it will invest approximately $400 million in India over the next five years. The company will greatly expand its presence in the country and will open its largest design center in Bengaluru, India, already in 2023.
    • Micron Technology, a US-headquartered company, will set up its semiconductor facility in Gujarat. The first made-in-India semiconductor chip from the plant will be produced in 18 months, i.e., December 2024.

    • World Hepatitis Day is observed every year on 28th July to raise awareness about viral hepatitis. The theme for World Hepatitis Day 2023 is 'One life, One liver’.The liver performs over 500 vital functions every single day to keep us alive, but viral hepatitis infection is also silent, with symptoms only appearing once the disease is advanced.

The day is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of conserving natural resources and protecting the environment. The theme for World Nature Conservation Day 2023 is “Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet”
  • Sports:
    • Papua New Guinea has qualified for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after beating Philippines by 100 runs in Port Moresby to guarantee a first-place finish in the East Asia-Pacific Qualifier. This is the second time that PNG have qualified for a Men’s T20 World Cup
    • Jake Dennis won the Formula E world championship with a race to spare after he finished runner-up in the first race of the London E-Prix weekend. The 28-year-old has become the first Briton to secure the title after his 10th podium of the season.
