Henley Passport Index 2023: Indian passport ranks 80th

Current Context: According to the Henley Passport Index 2023, which ranks passports according to the number of destinations that can be reached using a particular country’s ordinary passport without the need of a prior visa, India has improved its rank from 87th to 80th, allowing visa-free travel to 57 destinations. However, Indian passport holders still need a visa for 177 destinations.

  • The top-ranked passport in the world is Singapore, with visa-free access to 192 destinations, followed by Germany, Italy, and Spain with access to 190 destinations.
  • The UK has moved up to 4th place with access to 187 destinations, while the US has slid down to 8th place with access to 184 destinations.
  • The weakest passports in the world are Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria, with access to less than 30 destinations each.
