Current Context: Recent development in the bilateral relations between India and Greece, India and Greece have elevated their ties to the level of a strategic partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Athens on August 25, 2023.
India and Greece Pledge to Upgrade Ties
  • This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Greece in 40 years.The two leaders agreed to work together to expand cooperation in political, security, economic, and cultural spheres.
  • They also decided to double the bilateral trade by 2030, which has grown from $507 million in 2016-17 to $1.94 billion in 2022-23. 
  • Furthermore, they agreed to finalize a mobility and migration partnership agreement soon to facilitate the free movement of skilled workforce between the two countries.
  • The joint statement issued by the two Prime Ministers also expressed their support for diplomacy and dialogue in resolving the Ukraine crisis and their coordination on geopolitical, global, and regional issues, including the Indo-Pacific and the Mediterranean.
