Current Context: According to the World Federation of Direct Selling Association (WFDSA), India’s direct selling industry has grown by 5.4% over 2021, and has achieved the highest compounded annual growth rate of 13.3% in the last three years .
India has moved up to 11th position in the Ranking of top Markets of Direct Sellers
  • According to the WFDSA report, the country that ranked first in the global direct selling market in 2022 was the United States, with retail sales of $40.52 billion.
  • The second-ranked country was Korea, with retail sales of $19.13 billion, followed by Germany with $18.94 billion, China with $15.75 billion, and Japan with $15.39 billion.
  • Direct selling is a form of retailing that involves the sale of products or services directly to consumers, usually in their homes or workplaces, by independent salespeople who are not employed by the company that produces the products or services.
  • The Indian government has recently notified the Consumer Protection (Direct Selling) Rules 2021, which aim to provide a clear definition, framework, and guidelines for the direct selling industry in India .
  • The Indian Direct Selling Association (IDSA) has welcomed this move and expressed its hope that India will soon become one of the top five global markets for direct selling.
