MoHFW Launched e-CARe Portal

Current Context: The e-CARe Portal launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). This is a new initiative to facilitate the transportation of human remains across states and union territories in India.

  • The e-CARe Portal stands for e-Certificate for Authorization of Remains. It is a web-based application that allows the relatives or friends of the deceased to apply for a certificate online, without visiting any government office.
  • The portal aims to avoid delays and inconvenience in transporting human remains, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many people have lost their loved ones due to the virus or other causes.
  • The portal also provides information on the guidelines and protocols for handling and disposal of human remains, as well as the contact details of the nodal officers in each state and union territory.
  • The portal was launched by the MoHFW on August 9, 2023, in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
