  • National:
    • The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) and CSIR-National Physical Laboratory (NPL) have signed an agreement to develop a NavIC-based Primary Reference Time Clock (PRTC) for the telecom sector in India.

    • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has reported that household savings have fallen to a five-decade low of 5.1% of GDP in FY23, down from 7.2% in FY22. This decline suggests a severe income crunch and likely transience of the post-pandemic rise in consumption.
    • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has revised India’s GDP growth projection for the fiscal year 2023 (FY23) to 6.3%. This is a slight decrease from their previous estimate of 6.4%2. The revision is based on factors such as an ongoing global economic slowdown, tight monetary conditions, and elevated oil prices.
    • S&P Global Market Intelligence has upgraded India’s FY24 growth forecast to 6.6%, citing strong Q2 performance, up from the previous 5.9% projection in August. This upward revision is attributed to robust economic performance in the April-June quarter.
    • The Indian Air Force (IAF) has successfully tested the ‘Type V Heavy Drop System’ from a cargo aircraft. This system was developed at a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) facility in Agra.
    • The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a new initiative to provide instant birth registration for newborns at government health facilities. This initiative is the first of its kind in India.The process involves the integration of the MaNTrA (Maa Navjaat Tracking) app with the birth registration system using digital technology.
    • Startup Odisha, an initiative of the MSME Department of the Government of Odisha, has launched a 100 Crore Odisha Startup Growth Fund (OSGF) in collaboration with the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) as the fund manager.
    • The Supreme Court refused to interfere with the Cauvery Water Management Authority’s (CWMA) direction to Karnataka to release 5,000 cusecs of water per day for 15 days to neighbouring Tamil Nadu
    • The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in India has issued an advisory to television channels. They have been advised to refrain from providing a platform to individuals who are facing charges of serious crimes, including terrorism, or belong to organizations that have been proscribed by law
    • The Union Ministry of Railways has indeed revised the ex-gratia relief amounts for victims of rail accidents or their dependents.In case of death in a train accident as defined under Section 124 of the Railway Act 1989, the ex-gratia amount has been increased to 5 lakh.
    • The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is currently waiting to establish contact with Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram lander and Pragyan rover. They will continue attempts to revive the lander and rover for another 14 days.
  • Economy:
    • The Finance Ministry has indeed attributed the decline in the savings rate to an increase in borrowings for buying real estate. The Ministry dismissed concerns about household savings in the country falling to a multi-decade low, arguing that households are now adding lesser financial assets than in the past because they have started taking loans to buy real assets such as homes and vehicles
    • The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has initiated a public consultation process for the formulation of the National Broadcasting Policy (NBP). The pre-consultation paper released by TRAI covers various aspects of the broadcasting sector.
  • World:
    • The Climate Ambition Summit (CAS) in New York, as part of the United Nations General Assembly, concluded on September 21, 20231. It was marked by the absence of major economies whose actions significantly influence the future of global emissions.
  • Sports:
    • Indian wrestler Antim Panghal won a bronze medal in the women’s 53 kg category at the World Wrestling Championships 2023 held in Belgrade, Serbia. She defeated two-time European Champion Emma Jonna Denise Malmgren in the bronze medal bout by a score of 16-6
    • India’s Under 19 football team started the SAFF Championship with a 3-0 victory over Bangladesh. The match took place at the Dashrath Stadium in Kathmandu, Nepal on Thursday, September 21, 2023.

    • The International Day of Peace is observed across the world on September 21 every year. The United Nations General Assembly has declared this a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace.     • World Alzheimer’s Day is observed globally on September 21 every year.
