  • National:
    • Axis Bank, one of the largest private sector banks in India, has partnered with Cleartrip, a Flipkart company, to introduce a unique proposition to provide travel benefits to all existing and new Axis Bank credit card holders booking through Cleartrip.

    • The “Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals: The gender snapshot 2023” report, jointly produced by UN Women and UN DESA, provides a comprehensive analysis of gender equality progress across all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
    • HSBC India has indeed launched ‘ONDC in a Box’, making it the first foreign bank in India to offer an ONDC-enabled proposition. This one-stop-shop proposition is aimed at corporates for seamless enablement on ONDC.The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is an initiative by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, and Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
    • The Union Environment Ministry has set up a new Central Empowered Committee (CEC), replacing an ad hoc expert panel with the same name which assisted the Supreme Court in matters of forest and environment issues.
    • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the acquisition of up to 29.9% equity stake in RHI Magnesita NV by Ignite Luxembourg Holdings S.à r.l. This proposed combination leads to an indirect acquisition of RHI Magnesita India Limited (RHIM India) as no shares of the Indian company were being purchased as part of the Proposed Combination
    • The Indian Air Force (IAF) has tested an indigenously developed Military Combat Parachute System. During the test, a jumper from the IAF intentionally detached the main parachute, allowing the reserve parachute to open on its own through the Reserve Static Line (RSL), even before the activation of the Barometric Automatic Activation Device
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Joe Biden held a bilateral meeting in New Delhi. The meeting took place at PM Modi’s official residence, Lok Kalyan Marg. They discussed a wide range of issues, including AI, science, defense, healthcare, and renewable energy.
    • The Maharashtra government has announced that it will bring back the ‘Wagh Nakh’ (tiger claws) used by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj from the United Kingdom. The ‘Wagh Nakh’ is an iconic weapon that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj used to kill Afzal Khan
    • A Crafts Bazaar was indeed set up at the G20 Summit venue in New Delhi. The bazaar showcased traditional handicrafts from across India. It featured 30 stalls selling items such as Thanjavur paintings, Telia cloth, and Dhokra metalwork.
  • Economy:
    • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that it will discontinue the Incremental Cash Reserve Ratio (I-CRR) in a phased manner. The I-CRR was introduced on August 10, 2023, as a temporary measure to absorb excess liquidity from the banking system.
    • The World Bank has indeed praised India’s financial inclusion via digital public infrastructure in its G20 document. The document highlights that India has achieved financial inclusion targets in just 6 years, a feat that would otherwise have taken at least 47 years.
  • Sports:
    • Rohan Bopanna and his partner Matthew Ebden lost the US Open final to the defending champions Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury. Despite the loss, it was a moment of pride as Bopanna became the oldest male tennis player to reach the Grand Slam final
    • Mayank Chakraborty from India and Nazerke Nurgali from Kazakhstan emerged as the winners in the Tata Steel Asian Junior Rapid Chess 2023.Mayank Chakraborty scored 7/9 to clinch Gold. Despite losing his seventh round game against IM Srihari L R, he immediately bounced back by winning against IM Avinash Ramesh.
  • Appointments:
    • A. Ravi Shankar, the senior police officer and Additional Director General of Police has assumed charge as the new Commissioner of Police for Visakhapatnam city. He took over from C. M. Trivikrama Varma who has been relieved from the post.
