Indian Navy Conducts Maritime Exercise with Singapore

Current Context: SIMBEX 2023 is a bilateral naval exercise between the Indian Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) that has been conducted annually since 1994. It is the longest continuous naval exercise that the Indian Navy has with any other country.

• This year marks the 30th edition of SIMBEX, which is being held from September 21 to 28, 2023.The exercise comprises a shore phase at RSS Singapura – Changi Naval Base, and a sea phase in the southern reaches of the South China Sea within international waters.
• The exercise also includes the participation of a submarine from each navy for the first time, as well as a signing of a submarine rescue joint standard operating procedures document.
• The Indian Navy is represented by a Rajput-class destroyer, INS Ranvijay; a Kamorta-class corvette, INS Kavaratti; a Sindhughosh-class submarine, INS Sindhukesari; and a P-8I maritime patrol aircraft.
• SIMBEX 2023 is a demonstration of the strong political and strategic commitment by both India and Singapore to strengthen their military and security ties in the region.
