Current Context: Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur railway station has been renamed after martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan, a brave officer of the Indian Army who sacrificed his life in a counter-terrorism operation in 2016.

  • This is a tribute to his courage and valour, and a way of honouring his memory and legacy.Captain Tushar Mahajan was born on May 25, 1987, in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir.
  • He was a part of the 9 Para Special Forces unit, also known as the “9 Parachute Commando”. He was known for his leadership and skill in combat situations.
  • He was involved in several operations against terrorists and militants in Jammu and Kashmir, including Operation Rakshak and Operation Sarp Vinash.
  • He was also honoured by the renaming of the Udhampur railway station as Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Railway Station on September 15, 2021.
  • The renaming was approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Jammu and Kashmir administration, following the demand of the people of Udhampur and the efforts of Union Minister Jitendra Singh.
