Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan 2023

Current Context: Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan 2023 is a clean air survey conducted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).

• The survey aims to rank 131 cities in the country based on their actions to improve the air quality in different domains.
• The survey is not based on the measurement of the air quality parameters, but on the self-assessment report submitted by the urban local bodies on PRANA online portal.
• The survey has three categories of cities based on their population, and awards are given to the three best performing cities in each category.
• The survey was launched in September 2022 and the results for 2023 were announced recently by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yada. Some of the top-ranked cities in 2023 are Indore, Agra, Thane, Amravati, Moradabad, Guntur, Parwanoo, Kala Amb and Angul.
