Current Context: Teachers’ Day is a special day to appreciate and honor the teachers who have shaped our lives and futures. In India, Teachers’ Day is celebrated on September 5th every year to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a former President of India, a scholar, a philosopher, and a Bharat Ratna recipient.

  • He was born on September 5, 1888, and he was an advocate of education and a distinguished academicia. He once said, "Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if September 5th is observed as Teachers’ Day".
  • The theme for Teacher’s Day 2023 is “Teachers at the Heart of education recovery”
  • On Teachers’ Day, students all over the country pay respect and tribute to their teachers in various ways. The President of India also confers ‘National Awards to Teachers’ to some selected teachers for their outstanding contribution to the field of education.
  • Teachers’ Day is not only celebrated in India, but also in many other countries around the world. However, the dates and traditions may vary from country to country.
