  • National:
    • The World Health Organization (WHO) released the outcome document of the WHO Traditional Medicine Global Summit 2023 in the form of the “Gujarat Declaration”. The declaration reaffirmed global commitments towards indigenous knowledge, biodiversity, and traditional, complementary and integrative medicine.

    • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched the ‘Annual capacity building plan’ (ACBP) and ‘Know your ministry induction module’ of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) on September 2, 2023.
    • The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has launched the ‘Adopt a Heritage 2.0’ programme, the Indian Heritage app, and an e-permission portal. This initiative aims to engage corporate stakeholders in enhancing the amenities at 3696 protected monuments spread across the country
    • The government has permitted the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to invest proceeds arising out of the sale or redemption of investments in equities and related investments. However, the condition remains that it should not exceed the prescribed limit

    • DBS Bank and Keppel have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly scale up sustainable urbanisation and digitalisation solutions in Asia, with a focus on India. The attention on India comes due to DBS’ increasing presence in the country.
    • The annual training exercise, Trishul, of the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Western Air Command (WAC) began on September 4th. This exercise is a significant event that involves the activation of all air assets and force multipliers spread across the LOC.
    • On Monday, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal dedicated projects worth Rs. 216 crore in Visakhapatnam to the nation, including state-of-the-art Vizag International Cruise Terminal (VICT).

    • Federal Bank has launched a WhatsApp Lending Platform to enable its customers to apply for pre-approved personal loans. The platform was inaugurated by Federal Bank’s Chairman, AP Hota.
  • World:
    • The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that Chinese Premier Li Qiang will attend the G-20 summit from September 9 to 10 in India. This announcement comes days after India’s special secretary for G20 said the hosts were awaiting a written confirmation from China on president Xi Jinping’s attendance
    • Israel’s Foreign Minister Eli Cohen agreed with his Bahraini counterpart Abdullatif Al Zayani to boost trade relations during his first visit to one of the two Gulf Arab states to establish ties with Israel
    • The United Arab Emirates has created a federal authority to potentially run a national lottery and what it describes as “commercial gaming”. This is likely a sign that it is on the verge of allowing gambling as major casino operators flock to the Gulf Arab nation.
  • Sports:
    • Max Verstappen won the Italian Grand Prix 2023, which was the 14th round of the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship, at Monza. He set a new all-time record of 10 consecutive F1 race victories
  • Obituary:
    • Heath Streak, the former Zimbabwe cricket captain, passed away at the age of 49. He had been battling colon and liver cancer for a long time. His wife, Nadine Streak, confirmed his death on social media. Cricketers, both past and present, paid rich tributes to Heath Streak.
  • Appointments:
    • Uday Kotak resigned as the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kotak Mahindra Bank effective September 1, 2023. Dipak Gupta, who is currently the joint managing director of the bank, will carry out the duties of the CEO subject to approvals from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
    • Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) N.V. Ramana has been appointed as a member of the International Mediator Panel of Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC). A letter of appointment was presented to him by George Lim, Chairman of SIMC, on August 29, 2023 in Singapore
    • Mahendra Singh Dhoni, former Indian cricket team captain, has been appointed as the brand ambassador for Swaraj Tractors. Anand Mahindra, the chairman of the Mahindra Group, welcomed MS Dhoni to Swaraj Tractors and said that their paths were meant to cross.
  • Banking:
    • DGFT has clarified e-commerce exports also qualify for packing credit loan in foreign currency (PCFC) as per RBI guidelines.Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said banking and financial institutions are encouraged to provide pre-shipment and post-shipment export credit and PCFC to e-commerce exports.
