Current Context: The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024 include 1,904 universities across 108 countries and regions. The ranking is based on 18 carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across five areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.

• The University of Oxford tops the ranking for the eighth year in a row, followed by Stanford University and MIT. The University of Cambridge slips to fifth place, after being in joint third place last year.
• With 91 institutions, India is now the fourth most-represented nation, overtaking China (86). The highest-ranked Indian institution is the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, which is placed in the 201-250 bracket.
• It is followed by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, which is ranked in the 251-300 bracket.
