Raunak Sadhwani has won at the FIDE World Junior Rapid Chess Championship 2023

Current Context: India’s GrandMaster (GM) Raunak Sadhwani indeed won the FIDE World Junior Rapid Chess Championship 2023 title in the open category.The 17-year-old Raunak Sadhwani from Nagpur (Maharashtra) became a Grandmaster at the age of 13 years 9 months 28 days.
  • He was the 9th youngest player and 4th Indian to achieve GM at youngest age.
  • The championship was held from 9th to 16th October 2023 in Pula (Sardinia), Italy. On his way to become world junior rapid champion, Raunak won eight rounds, suffered two losses and drew a board to top of the table pocketing 8.5 points
  • After playing out a 45-move draw with second seed GM Arseniy Nesterov in the 10th and penultimate round, Raunak prevailed over Germany’s Tobias Koelle in the final round to emerge champion.
  • In addition to this, he also secured second place (Silver Medal) in the FIDE World Junior Blitz Championship 2023 in the open category. This is indeed a great achievement.
