SAC ISRO Signed MoU with NavTech for Optical Wireless Communication

Current Context:The Space Applications Centre (SAC), a major center of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ahmedabad-based Nav Wireless Technologies Pvt Ltd (NavTech), a pioneer in Light Fidelity (LiFi) technology.

  • The MoU is about using light-based high-speed communication for satellite communication in space.
  • This technology will allow SAC to use high-speed secure quantum key communication using light from base stations to satellites in space and for terrestrial communication.
  • It will also enable quantum key distribution (QKD) and pointing acquisition and tracking (PAT) for satellite-to-satellite communications in space.
  • This technology is set to be used in ISRO’s upcoming space exploration programs. The MoU signed between SAC/ISRO and Nav Wireless Technologies has a tenure of three years.
  • LiFi technology utilizes the transmission of data through a light beam spectrum in both indoor and outdoor environments.
