  • National:
    • The Uttar Pradesh government in India has indeed banned the production, storage, distribution, and sale of food products carrying a halal certification. This ban also extends to medicines and cosmetic items.

    • Recent studies have shed light on a mysterious new layer above Earth’s core. This layer is believed to have formed due to water from Earth’s surface finding its way deep into the planet. The water changes the outermost region of the metallic liquid core.
    • United Nations panel on road safety met in New Delhi from November 4 to 6, 2023. The three-day conference was jointly organized by the Institute of Road Traffic Education and the Global Road Safety Forum of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and its Asia-Pacific counterpart, the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific
    • The CII India Nordic Baltic Business Conclave is an event organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India. The second edition of this conclave is scheduled to take place from 22-23 November 2023 at Sushma Swaraj Bhavan, New Delhi.
  • International:
    • The United Service Institution of India (USI), the country’s oldest think-tank established in 1870, organized its Annual UN Forum 2023 on 21-22 November 2023 in New Delhi. The two-day seminar focused on "International Humanitarian Law and Peacekeeping".
  • Banking:
    • The government has cancelled the bid for appointing an asset valuer for IDBI Bank and a fresh Request for Proposal (RFP) will be issued. The Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey had last week said the IDBI Bank strategic sale transaction is “on course” but the transaction would not be completed in the current fiscal. This decision is part of the government’s effort to divest stake in the bank.
  • Economy:
    • Bengaluru indeed leads the country with 1,783 women-led startups according to data from Tracxn. This city is followed by Mumbai and Delhi with 1,480 and 1,195 women-led startups respectively.
  • Awards & Honors:
    • The Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development 2022 was, on November 19, jointly awarded to Sharad Kumar Agarwal the President of Indian Medical Association and to Roy K George the President of Trained Nurses Association of India as representatives of the COVID-19 warriors in the country.
    • Uttar Pradesh was honored with the Best State-Inland Fisheries Award at the Global Fisheries Conference 2023 in Ahmedabad. This awards received by Shri Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary, the Minister for Dairy Development, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries, Government of Uttar Pradesh.
    • Max Verstappen of Red Bull won the inaugural F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix 2023. The race took place on Sunday, 19 November 2023 at the Las Vegas Street Circuit.
    • Tamil writer Perumal Murugan won the 2023 JCB Literary Prize for his novel ‘Fire Bird’, an English translation of his Tamil novel 'Aalanda Patchi’. The award was announced virtually by Lord Bamford, Chairman of JCB Group, and awarded in person by Deepak Shetty, CEO and Managing Director, JCB India Limited.
    • Sheynnis Palacios from Nicaragua was indeed crowned Miss Universe 2023. The 23-year-old made history by becoming the first contestant from Nicaragua to win this prestigious title. The event took place at the José Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador, El Salvador.
    • On 20th November 2023, Indian comedian Vir Das won the International Emmy Award for his Netflix stand-up special “Vir Das: Landing” in the best comedy series category. This achievement makes him the first Indian to win the International Emmy Award in this category.
  • Important Days:
    • World Prematurity Day is observed annually on November 17 to raise awareness about preterm birth and the concerns of preterm babies and their families worldwide. In 2023, the global theme for World Prematurity Day was "Small actions, big impact: Immediate skin-to-skin care for every baby everywhere".
