CV Raman Birth Anniversary 2023 – November 7

Current Context: The 135th birth anniversary of Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, popularly known as CV Raman, was celebrated on November 7, 2023. This day is also known as National Science Day.

• The theme for National Science Day 2023, is "Global Science for Global Wellbeing"
• He was one of India’s greatest scientists who won the Nobel Prize in Physics for the ‘Raman Effect’.
• He was born on November 7, 1888, in a Tamil Brahim family.
• His father was a lecturer of Mathematics and Physics, which influenced young Raman to follow the path of Science.
• He completed his secondary and higher secondary education at St Aloysius’ Anglo-Indian High School in Visakhapatnam.
• Later, he went on to get his BA and MA degrees from the University of Madras. During his student years, he published two scientific papers.
