HDFC Bank Recommends Re-appointment of Atanu Chakraborty as Chairman for 3 years

Current Context: The Board of Directors of HDFC Bank has recommended the re-appointment of Atanu Chakraborty as the Part Time Non-Executive Chairman and Independent Director of the Bank to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), for a second term of three years.

• This term will be effective from May 05, 2024 to May 04, 2027.
• Atanu Chakraborty, a 1985 batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre, retired as Secretary of Department of Economic Affairs in April 2020.
• He was appointed chairman of the bank in May 2024.
• He has mainly worked in areas of Finance & Economic Policy, Infrastructure, Petroleum & Natural Gas.
• The re-appointment is subject to the approval of the RBI and the shareholders of the Bank.
• Accordingly, the Bank will make an application to the RBI in this regard under Section 35B of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
