Current Context: The National Conference on APAAR: One Nation One Student ID Card was inaugurated in New Delhi on 13 February 2024.

  • The conference was hosted by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India.
  • The Union Minister of Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, inaugurated the conference.
  • The conference was centered around the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) initiative, which aims to provide a unique and permanent 12-digit ID to every student, consolidating their academic achievements in one place.
  • This initiative is part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and is envisioned to create a seamless educational landscape, facilitate academic mobility, and ensure data security and privacy for students.
  • As of the conference date, 25 crore APAAR IDs have already been created.
  • The APAAR ID is expected to be an aspirational and global document for the students of India.
