  • National:
    • Indian cricketer Kedar Jadhav has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. He made his international debut in 2014 and played 73 ODIs and nine T20Is for India.     • Dr. Helen Mary Roberts is the first woman from a minority community to be promoted to brigadier in the Pakistan Army. She is a Christian and has been with the Pakistan Army Medical Corps for over 26 years. She is a senior pathologist and was also the first female surgeon general of the Pakistan Army.
  • Banking:
    • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) canceled the auction of 10-year green bonds on June 1, 2024. This was due to the market’s refusal to pay a premium, known as greenium, for these bonds. The cancellation highlights the challenges in establishing a robust market for green bonds in India.
    • Axis Bank and Mastercard launched an NFC Soundbox on May 29, 2024. The device accepts multiple payment methods, provides dual confirmation, and supports deep integration with third-party apps. It aims to boost card payment acceptance among small merchants.
    • Axis Bank and Bajaj Allianz General Insurance announced a bancassurance partnership on June 3, 2024. The partnership aims to increase insurance penetration in India by offering a range of personal and commercial insurance products through Axis Bank’s network of over 5250 branches.
  • Economy:
    • The third advance estimate of total food grain production is 3288.52 lakh metric tons. This includes all types of food grains. These are preliminary figures and may vary based on factors like weather and harvesting techniques. This high production indicates a strong agricultural sector.
  • Science & Technology:
    • The new blue ant species, Paraparatrechina neela, was discovered in the Siang Valley of Arunachal Pradesh, India on June 3, 2024. The ant is less than 2mm long, has a metallic blue color, and was found by a team from ATREE, Bengaluru, and the University of Florida.
    • The European Space Agency (ESA) and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) launched the EarthCARE mission on May 28, 2024. The mission aims to study the role of clouds and aerosols in Earth’s climate. It carries four instruments: the Atmospheric Lidar (ATLID), the Cloud Profiling Radar (CPR), the Multi-Spectral Imager (MSI), and the Broadband Radiometer.
