A tripartite agreement between DEPwD, NIOS and NCERT was signed in New Delhi

Current Context: A significant step toward inclusive education! On June 18, 2025, a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in New Delhi between:

Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD)
National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)
National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT)

Key Highlights:

Objective: To promote inclusive education for persons with disabilities in line with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
NIOS Role: Will recognize special schools under the Deendayal Disabled Rehabilitation Scheme (DDRS) as Special Accredited Institutions for Education of the Disabled (SAIEDs). These schools will offer Open Basic Education, Secondary, Senior Secondary, and vocational courses.
NCERT Role: Will revise and adapt curriculum and textbooks to ensure accessibility, inclusivity, and alignment with NEP 2020.
Implementation: A Joint Coordination Committee will oversee the rollout, ensuring accommodations in exams and accessible learning materials.
