Current Context: During July 11–13, 2025, India signed long-term fertilizer supply agreements with Saudi Arabia to enhance agricultural security.

  • Indian firms—Indian Potash Limited (IPL), Krishak Bharati Cooperative Ltd (KRIBHCO), and Chambal Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd (CIL)—entered into 5-year contracts.
  • Supplier: Ma’aden (Saudi Arabian Mining Company) will provide 3.1 million metric tonnes of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) annually from FY 2025–26.
  • This marks a rise from 1.9 million MT imported in FY 2024–25, with a 5-year extension option.
  • A joint working group, led by India’s Fertilizer Secretary and Saudi’s Vice Minister for Mining Affairs, was formed.
  • Talks also covered expansion to Urea, mutual investments, and customized fertilizer R&D for Indian agriculture.
