Current Context: On August 27, 2025, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh launched India’s first National Biofoundry Network and the BioE3 Challenge for Youth at the National Media Centre, New Delhi.

  • The Biofoundry Network includes six top institutes—ICGEB, BRIC-NABI, THSTI, NCCS, IPFT, and ACTREC—to scale biotech innovation and indigenous biomanufacturing.
  • The BioE3 Challenge invites youth to design safe-by-default biological solutions in health, agriculture, and environment.
  • Top 10 winners will receive ₹1 lakh; 100 selected ideas may get up to ₹25 lakh via BIRAC (Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council).
  • The initiative marks one year of the BioE3 Policy—Biotechnology for Economy, Environment & Employment.
  • It aims to grow India’s bioeconomy to $300 billion by 2030, fostering youth-led innovation and sustainability.
