National:
  • On 18 Sept 2025, IIM Udaipur partnered with MoSPI, NITI Aayog’s DMEO, and Bhashini. With MoSPI, it will support the Data Innovation Lab; with NITI Aayog, it will strengthen Monitoring & Evaluation systems. With Bhashini, it will advance AI/ML for Indian languages via hubs, datasets, and research. The collaborations aim to boost data‑driven governance, evidence‑based policy, and inclusive AI innovation.
Current Affairs One - Liner : 21st & 22nd September 2025
  • On 19 Sept 2025, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) and the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) launched a ₹5.26 crore initiative. Aim: integrate AYUSH therapies with modern rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). Projects at NIEPID, SVNIRTAR, AYJNISHD, PDUNIPPD will target neurodiversity, blood disorders, sensory and age‑related disabilities.
  • On 19 Sept 2025, India Global Forum (IGF) and Quantum Ecosystems Technology Council of India (QETCI) signed a pact to create a UK‑India Quantum Value Chain Map, catalysed by UK‑India Future Forum (UKIFF). Aim: strengthen joint R&D, talent mobility, and commercial adoption of quantum tech. An initial overview will be published in 2026 after stakeholder engagement.
  • On 16 Sept 2025, Indian Railways renamed Ahmednagar Railway Station (Pune Division, Maharashtra) as Ahilyanagar. The move honours Punyashlok Ahilyabai Holkar, the 18th‑century Maratha queen. Approved by the Union Home Ministry after Maharashtra Govt’s proposal.
International:
  • On 19 Sept 2025, Brazil became the first investor in the Global Forest Fund (TFFF) at the UN. The fund aims to raise $125 bn to reward nations for keeping tropical forests standing. Brazil’s move sets a benchmark for other countries, ahead of COP30 in Belem. The initiative blends sovereign, philanthropic & private finance for global forest conservation.
Banking:
  • On 19 Sept 2025, RBI gave final approval to PhonePe to operate as an Online Payment Aggregator (PA). This allows PhonePe to onboard merchants directly, especially SMEs and startups. It already serves 650M+ users, 45M merchants, processing 360M+ daily transactions.
  • On 19 Sept 2025, PayRupy partnered with BRISKPE to expand into cross-border payments. BRISKPE, a licensed Payment Aggregator – Cross Border (PA-CB), provides compliance-first infrastructure. The alliance offers a one-stop platform for domestic + international money movement.
Economy:
  • On 22nd September 2025, The Index of Eight Core Industries grew 6.3% YoY in Aug 2025, a 13‑month high. Strong growth came from Steel (+14.2%), Coal (+11.4%), Cement (+6.1%), and Fertilizers (+4.6%). Crude Oil (–1.2%) and Natural Gas (–2.2%) contracted. Cumulative growth Apr–Aug 2025‑26 stood at 2.8%.
MoUs:
  • On 22 Sept 2025, India and Morocco signed an MoU on Defence Cooperation in Rabat. The pact aims to boost ties in the defence industry, joint training, counter‑terrorism, maritime security, cyber defence, and peacekeeping. A new Defence Wing was announced at the Indian Embassy in Rabat to drive initiatives..

  • The World Trade Report 2025 – “Making Trade and AI Work Together to the Benefit of All” was released by the World Trade Organization (WTO) on 17 September 2025 at Geneva. It projects Artificial Intelligence (AI) could boost global trade by ~40% and GDP by 12–13% by 2040. Trade in AI‑enabling goods (semiconductors, servers, raw materials) already reached USD 2.3 trillion in 2023.

  • On 19 Sept 2025, ICC launched the official Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 song “Bring it Home”, sung by Shreya Ghoshal. The anthem celebrates unity, strength, and dreams of women cricketers with vibrant lyrics and beats. The 13th edition of the Women’s World Cup runs from 30 Sept – 2 Nov 2025 in India & Sri Lanka.
  • On 20 Sept 2025, Smriti Mandhana hit a 50‑ball century vs Australia in Delhi, breaking Virat Kohli’s 52‑ball record. Her 125 (63) is now the fastest ODI ton by any Indian. She also became the first Indian woman with 4 ODI centuries in a year.
Important Days:
  • World Alzheimer’s Day 2025 was observed on 21 Sept with the theme “Ask about Dementia. Ask about Alzheimer’s”. It aimed to raise awareness, promote early diagnosis, and reduce stigma. Campaigns highlighted community support, caregiver empowerment, and timely intervention.
  • World Water Monitoring Day 2025 was observed on 18 Sept with the theme “Glacier Preservation”. It promotes citizen water testing and awareness of freshwater challenges. Glaciers, storing 70% of Earth’s freshwater, are under threat from climate change. The day stresses sustainable water management and global action for future security.
  • World Cleanup Day 2025 was observed on 20 Sept with the theme “Textile and Fashion Waste”. The campaign slogan “Strive for Five” urged mobilization of 5% of communities. It aimed to tackle 92 million tonnes of global textile waste through awareness & action.
Appointments:
  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved new Director Generals on 19 September 2025. Praveer Ranjan (Indian Police Service – IPS, AGMUT:1993) was appointed as the new Director General (DG) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), with tenure till July 2029. Praveen Kumar (IPS, West Bengal:1993) was appointed as the new DG of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), with tenure till September 2030.
  • AAI launched the Archery Premier League (APL), India’s first franchise-based archery league, in New Delhi (Oct 2–12, 2025). It will feature 6 teams, 36 Indian + 12 international archers, competing in recurve & compound formats under lights. Actor Ram Charan was appointed as the Brand Ambassador. The league aims to boost India’s Olympic prospects and globalize archery.
Awards & Honours:
  • Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has been chosen for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023, India’s highest film honour. Announced by the Government of India on 20 Sept 2025, it will be presented at the 71st National Film Awards on 23 Sept 2025. He is recognised for his exceptional contribution to Indian cinema with 400+ films across languages.
  • On 22 Sept 2025 in Paris, Ousmane Dembélé (PSG/France) won the Men’s Ballon d’Or, while Aitana Bonmatí (Barcelona/Spain) claimed her third straight Women’s Ballon d’Or. Lamine Yamal and Vicky López (both Barcelona) won the Kopa Trophies for best U‑21 players. Donnarumma & Hannah Hampton took the Yashin Trophies, while Viktor Gyökeres & Ewa Pajor won the Gerd Müller Awards.
