Current Context: On 23 Sept 2025, the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) signed an MoU with New Space India Limited (NSIL), in New Delhi.
NCMRWF–NSIL MoU for DBNet Stations under Mission Mausam
  • The pact is to establish two Direct Broadcast Network (DBNet) stations at Delhi/NCR and Chennai under Mission Mausam.
  • These stations will enable real‑time satellite data reception from Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, processed within 5 minutes for use in Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models.
  • The initiative will improve cyclone, monsoon, flood, and extreme weather forecasts, reducing latency and enhancing disaster preparedness.
