National:
  • Gujarat has officially declared 2025 as the “Year of Urban Development,” marking two decades since the launch of its Well-Planned City Development Project in 2005 under then CM Narendra Modi. The initiative aims to accelerate sustainable, modern, and inclusive urban growth across the state.

  • On 10 October 2025, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) recognised Deendayal (Gujarat), V.O. Chidambaranar (Tamil Nadu), and Paradip (Odisha) ports as Green Hydrogen Hubs under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. These hubs will serve as centres for production, storage, utilisation, and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives. The move strengthens India’s clean energy transition and supports its net‑zero 2070 goal.
  • On 3 Sept 2025, AIIMS New Delhi conducted India’s first robotic kidney transplant using the Da Vinci Xi system. The procedure enabled smaller incisions, less blood loss, and faster recovery. It was led by Dr. Virendra Bansal and the AIIMS transplant team. The success was officially announced on 10 Oct 2025, marking a historic milestone in Indian healthcare.
Banking:
  • In September 2025, India registered 21,632 new private sector companies, the highest in five months and second‑highest in the year. This was above August’s ~20,000 registrations, showing strong entrepreneurial growth. The data, excluding OPCs, LLPs, and foreign firms, was released by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. The announcement came on 5 October 2025.
Economy:
  • In September 2025, capital expenditure (Capex) by 60 Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) and four major organisations surged to ₹1.13 lakh crore, the highest in nine months. This was more than double August’s ₹51,000 crore and nearly 60% higher year‑on‑year, driven mainly by railways and road infrastructure projects. With this, CPSEs have already achieved about 50% of the FY26 target of ₹7.85 lakh crore. The figures were officially announced on 8 October 2025 by the Department of Public Enterprises.
MoUs:
  • The Maharashtra government signed an MoU with Fira Barcelona International on 10 October 2025 at the Chief Minister’s residence in Mumbai. The aim is to set up a world-class convention and exhibition centre in Nagpur, boosting trade, culture, and investment. Key highlights include global-standard exhibition halls, cultural and academic spaces, and strong transport connectivity.
  • The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) signed an MoU in October 2025 at the Traffic InfraTech Expo, New Delhi, to jointly develop, test, and certify indigenous automotive technologies for India’s future mobility.
Science & Technology:
  • In Nilgiris (8 Oct 2025), scientists described two new non‑luminous fireflies – Lamellipalpodes kurumba (after the Kurumba tribe) and L. debprasama (after researchers’ parents). These additions take the genus Lamellipalpodes to 14 species, with 5 found in India. In Oct 2025, a new wasp species from the Crabronidae family was reported in Kolkata.
Military Exercises:
  • The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) conducted ReSAREX‑25 (Regional Search and Rescue Exercise 2025) on 8–9 October 2025 off the Panambur coast, Mangaluru. The exercise tested mass rescue preparedness with participation from ICG ships, aircraft, NDRF, Marine Police, NMPA, MRPL, and hospitals. MRCC Mumbai acted as the mission coordinator, while MRSC New Mangaluru served as the command post.

  • World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) 2025 was observed on 11 October 2025 with the theme “Shared Spaces: Creating Bird-Friendly Cities and Communities.” It highlighted the need for coexistence between humans and migratory birds, especially in urban areas where habitat loss and development pressures threaten bird populations.

  • The RBI announced on 9 Oct 2025 the appointment of Sanjay Kumar Hansda as its new Executive Director. He will assume charge from 3 Mar 2026, heading the Department of Economic & Policy Research (DEPR). Hansda earlier served as Senior Adviser to ED (India) at the IMF.
  • On World Mental Health Day (10 October 2025), the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare appointed actress Deepika Padukone as India’s first-ever Mental Health Ambassador. This marks a landmark step in India’s public health policy, placing mental well-being at the center of national health priorities.

  • Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy launched the book “Maine Cancer Ko Jeet Liya” by Dr. P. Vijay Anand Reddy on 9 October 2025 at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi. The book features 108 inspiring stories of cancer survivors, highlighting courage, resilience, and hope.
Obituaries:
  • TT Jagannathan (1948–2025), Chairman Emeritus of TTK Prestige, passed away at 77 in Bengaluru. Grandson of TT Krishnamachari, India’s former Finance Minister and founder of the TTK Group. An IIT Madras gold medalist with a PhD from Cornell, he pioneered the gasket release system in pressure cookers.
